The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the 2015 workplace safety statistics and unfortunately, the numbers are not the best we have seen. According to BLS, on-the-job deaths in 2015 were at the highest level since 2008 with a total of 4,836 deaths due to workplace injuries recorded.
With workplace injuries and deaths on the rise, workplace safety is a high priority for a lot of organizations. Many workplaces including warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing and processing facilities, mining and energy facilities, and more are turning to technology, specifically Real-Time Location Systems, to better monitor workplace activities to prevent accidents and workplace injuries and increase the overall safety of operations.
A Real-Time Location System, also referred to as RTLS, is a technology that determines the current location of a specific person or object, by tracking a small, battery-powered tag on the object. Once the object has been identified, through our location engine software technology, we can then monitor and track the location of each tag and provide metrics and analytics that improve productivity, operational management, safety and security for a variety of industries.
Here are five examples of how many of these facilities are using RTLS to improve workplace safety:
